ilja123 She's been living in England for two years — she still lives there. If somebody doesn't get a long with people — that means in general, i.e. they pretty much always don't get along with other people. If someone is not getting along with somebody else — that means you're talking about a specific situation, say somebody just got a new job and they're not getting along with their new co-workers. feel is used in continuous all the time in expressions like 'I'm feeling under the weather' etc. see and hear can be used in progressive tenses as well, it's just that the meaning will usually be slightly different: For example you can be seeing someone — that would mean you are dating them. Or if you're seeing someone at 3 pm — that means you'll be meeting up with them at that time. In the sense of seeing something with your eyes, see is not normally used in progressive tenses, although occasionally people do say things like are you seeing what I'm seeing? or someone might be seeing things that aren't there. The same goes for hear — in some contexts and in some meanings this verb can be used in progressive tenses. Textbooks, especially ones for beginners, often try to simplify things. Reality is usually a bit more complicated. |

а вот во втором случае ни в коем случае нельзя использовать времена группы Perfect, так как действие уже прошло, есть точное указание — вчера, а раз действие прошло, то используется либо Past Simple, либо Past Continuous, в примере действие в прошлом продолжительное, значит Past Continuous: Yesterday, we were working for two hours.> Во первых перфект — это не время, это аспект, а в английском все аспекты могут употребляться в любом времени, например можно спокойно сказать I had been reading for two hours when the phone rang. Перфектный аспект — ретроспективный, показывает что действие происходило (и происходит) до какогото момента времени, момент же времени может быть как в настоящем (I've been reading for two hours) так и в прошедшем и в будущем By the time he comes back I'll have been reading for at least two hours. Что касается действия в прошлом, вчера мы работали в саду два часа — если вы просто говорите это как факт, то тут вообще можно сказать в просто аспекте Yesterday we spent two hours working in the garden or Yesterday we worked in the garden for two hours. Continuous aspect используется в основном для действий, которые воспринимаются как незавершенные, если элемента незавершенности нет, то и продолженные аспект не нужен. В прошлом он используется как правило для действий, который "содержат" в себе другие действия, типа We were working in the garden when the plane crashed. по этому we worked in the garden for two hours yesterday — самое нейтральное и правильное предложение. У вашего репетитора по ходу в голове тоже каша с видо-временными формами английского глагола — заметьте что это не времена, а именно видо-временные формы |

there's no gerund in your piece, both of the ing forms are participles. Btw it also has to be said that technically there's no such thing in English as either gerund or the participle as far as the form is concerned, there's just the ing form that sometimes functions as a participle and other times as a gerund. An example of an ing form used as a gerund (i.e. performing the functions of a noun) would be Interpreting the US Constitution is the job of the Supreme Court.

Первое предположение Stampede правильное. На самом деле современные дексприптивные грамматисты Английского языка вообще склоняются к мысли, что как таковых правил "последовательности времен" просто нет, есть только здравый смысл. в предложении про Путина из BBC Putin said yesterday that he will run for President next year. Putin running for president is still in the future. This time next year someone could say As soon as Putin said he would run for President it was clear who the winner of the presidential race would be. Now everything is in the past, Putin saying he would run and Putin running. Another example. A friend of mine is throwing a party tonight. I run into another friend and ask her if she'll come to the party she says she will. I then call the first friend and tell him, 'Yo, I just saw Ann, she said she'll be there tonight' Eventually Ann never shows up, so the next day I might say to my friend, 'Sorry bro, I don't know what happened, when I saw her yesterday I swear she said she'd be there' PS. I'm pretty sure BBC articles get proof-read by native editors before being published.

'Next to me sat a clergyman' is an inverted version of the standard sentence 'a clergyman sat next to me' next to me = beside me, by my side. a clergyman, who was an old friend of mine, sat next to me. The subject of the sentence is clergyman. Next to me answers the question 'where did the clergyman sit?' -> he sat next to me.

'There weren't many restaurants here five years ago' — is the only correct version because we're talking about a situation that existed five years ago in the past, you can't use present perfect here. Next question: |

если у вас английский на уровне my father is ??? teacher (без артикля), то смотреть фильмы вам рано. И еще один момент — без грамматики никакого языка нет, в том числе и разговорного, можно конечно ее "запикапить" через прослушку и пассивное восприятие, но это долгий и больный процесс, придется тексты уровня my name is max слушать больше года, проще, imho всетаки почитать про грамматику хотяб чуток, например на этом сайте (см Курс молодого бойца) |
