Darwin made a number of proved predictions in his works which were brilliantly confirmed later. This is a diagnostic sign of the science. For example, he predicted the existence of extinct transitional forms between man and monkey. I remind, that at the time of writing "Origin of human" there were very far from discovering of any pithecanthropus, australopithecus, etc. Darwin paid his attention to the strangeness of the fact that there were no multicellular organisms in the geological layers formed in the precambrian period (which however were found in the precambrian layers in the middle of the twentieth century).
