When attempting to somehow explain Pilate's strange favour with respect to Christ, Matthew the Evangelist refers to an intercession of the procurator's wife, who allegedly had a relevant vision in her dream. But, goodness' sake! What wife? Let us suppose that the Procurator was married indeed, and his wife's opinion on state affairs, besides, meant something more than a door creak to him. How, however, did she happen to be in Jerusalem?
Here the second legend of Sant Valentine begins. While being imprisoned, pending сertain execution, Valentine fell in love with a warder's daughter, who reciprocated his feelings and visited him in the dungeon. When i was watching this movie for the first time, i thought to myself that a fighting would break out, but the episode ends in that. When i was waching this movie for the second, third and the tenth time, i got stuck on this scene over and over again.
Apparently, this bumpkin's appearance here is not casual, it must be fixed in the script, it must have some sense. But what sence is that? Then, at the next viewing (I find it difficult to tell to you which one exactly at) it dawnet upon me! I got what this scene was for! Now, let me explain what actually has happened in this scene
